CLANWARS

The ClanWars is an ongoing battle between CyberStike Clans for control of Syren. Clans battle one another by challenging enemy clans to combat, by doing so, they may increase or decrease their clan's "fame".

A new clan begins with a rating of 1000 fame. Fame is much like a handicapping system which penalizes powerful clans for playing weaker clans and awards weak clans for playing powerful clans.

Fame uses a simple formula to determine if a clan gets a penalty or a bonus when they play another clan. In simple terms, take the enemy clan's fame, subtract your clan's fame and divide by two, the resulting number is the bonus or penalty. Positive numbers are bonuses, negative numbers are penalties. The bonus or penalty is added into the ending score of the match.

Example: You are thinking of challenging the PowerMonger Clan to a match. Their Fame is 1007, your clan's fame is 1011.
Enemy Clans fame 1007
Minus

  -

Your Clans fame 1011
Equals - 4
Divide by 2
Equals your clans bonus or penalty - 2

This means your clan will be penalized 2 fame points for playing the PowerMongers. Your clan will gain fame if it wins by 3 or more points. It will lose fame if it wins by 2 or less points.

Fame is important to clans because it is used for tournament seeding and determining participation in the ClanWars Tournament.

ClanWars Tournament

The ClanWars Tournament will be held once every 4 months. The top 16 clans (based on their fame), that meet the Tournament requirements, will be allowed to enter the tournament.

Using a structured schedule, this tournament will pit each clan against all other tournament clans. Each round will bring about a new opponent for every clan until the clans have all played one another. The two clans with the most victories will battle for the ClanWars championship. The entire tournament should take about 10 weeks.

The ClanWars Tournament will be played much like a normal tournament and the tournament rules will apply with a few exceptions.
  • Clans that drop out of the ClanWars Tournament will not be allowed to enter the next ClanWars Tournament. A clan is considered to have dropped out if it fails to play two consecutive matches.
  • Matches will take place on specific maps each round.

ClanWars FAQ

Q: Why do you use fame to determine who gets to enter the ClanWars? Its not fair!
A: Fame is used for several reasons, it helps generate some excitement for normal challenge matches, it helps weed out clans who do not play challenge matches and it limits the number of clans in the ClanWars Tournament to a manageable level.
Q: I still dont like fame, why does my clan have to be penalized for playing weak clans? Its not fair!
A: A clan that has much higher fame than another clan, and thus ranked higher, SHOULD be able to beat the lower ranked clan easily. If this is not the case, then the higher ranked clan was over rated and adjusted for being so. If you think of fame as combination of a skill rating and of actual fame you will see its reason for being. An example would be a boxing match between two boxers. If one boxer is highly ranked and thus famous, and his opponent is not highly ranked or famous, the highly ranked boxer is expected to win and win easily. If the highly ranked boxer wins, but has a difficult time defeating the low ranked boxer, the highly ranked boxer will be viewed less favorably while the lower ranked boxer may gain respect.

Q: Why do you only allow 16 clans into the ClanWars Tournament? Its not fair!
A: As the number of players and clans grow, the number of quality clans will also grow. As this number of quality clans grow, we will increase the number of clans that may enter the ClanWars Tournament.

Q: How can I turn my clan into a "quality" clan?
A: First you must decide if you want to even form a clan. Being an effective Clan Leader is more work than most players think. Maintaining a clan, making decisions, making and accepting challenges, making sure your clan plays tournament matches on time, determining who plays etc, are all functions of a clans leader.

Most players simply form a clan and then try to get other players to join them, these clans hardly ever succeed. Its best to create clans with players you have known for at least a few months, players you think you will be able to count on when your clan has difficult times. Try to avoid players who jump from clan to clan and are just trying to get onto a winning clan.

Attempt to keep up to date with your clan members, use e-mail to discuss clan topics. Set up scrimmages against fellow clan members, so you can determine your clans strengths and weaknesses before the enemy does ;) Dont be afraid to challenge other clans who's fame is similar to yours (+ or - 5 points)

The best clans are built with hard work, determination and organization.
